Introduction:

The Probus Club of Waltham Forest is located on the North East London and Essex borders. We meet at The Queen Elizabeth Pub, 95 Forest Side, Chingford, London, E4 6BA from 12.15pm to c.3.30pm on the third Monday of each month.

The Pub has a large car park and is on a bus route. Please enter your vehicle registration at the terminal on the bar when you arrive. There is no charge for parking.

The purpose of the Club is to provide for regular monthly meetings for men who are nearing retirement age, or are semi-retired or retired and who value friendly social contact with others.

The meetings consist of a two course lunch, followed by a guest speaker. The talks cover a range of subjects of general interest.

Ladies are also welcome, as are other guests, at varied events during the course of the year and at our annual Christmas lunch.

The current membership fees (2025 -2026) are £10:00 per year, and the monthly lunch, including speaker, costs £20:00 per head which includes a main course and a dessert.

When you first make contact with either our friendly Club President or Honorary Secretary (contact details below) you will be given more information about the Club and details of the next up-coming meeting and speaker.

As mentioned we are very friendly and, if you like the sound of it all, and you are a man who is nearing retirement age, or are semi-retired or retired, you are very welcome to come along to the lunch as a guest to see the club and then decide, either on the day or afterwards, whether you wish to join.

History:

The Club was founded in 1977 and continues to have the aim of offering those no longer in full-time employment the opportunity  to regularly meet in convivial and social surroundings.

Up-coming Speakers and events for the rest of 2026 (at time of writing which is early March 2026):

In the coming months our different speakers will be giving interesting and varied talks on topics such as:

‘The Lea Valley Heritage’, ‘Tales of Newgate and the Old Bailey’, ‘The role of the Lysander Aircraft and the Special Operations Executive (S.O.E.) during WW2’. ‘Vulcan XL426 and the V Force’, ‘The Huguenots in Soho’, ‘The history of Working Men’s Clubs’ , ‘Concorde 101 and supersonic travel’ and  ‘London’s Lost Pubs’.

In addition we have a BBQ and Speaker planned for Tuesday 4th August 2026 which will be held at Mornington Hall on that occasion with the speaker reflecting on ‘his life, Bob Dylan, Buddy Holly and others’ with accompanying music !

We have our Christmas lunch and speaker planned for Monday 14th December 2026 back at the Queen Elizabeth Pub.

We usually give out information on which talk is to be given (and when) closer to the time.

They usually run for c.40 to c.50 mins and questions can be asked afterwards of course.

We are also planning to organise one or two interesting outings or trips during the course of the year which will most likely be open to members, prospective members, their wives or partners and other guests !

We hope you will be interested to make contact and find out more about what our Probus Club is all about !
